JKUAT Adopting Online Hostel Booking

Online hostel booking of rooms is finally in JKUAT after a long wait especially since other top universities had already integrated it in their system. The JKUAT fraternity received the news from the Accommodation Secretary Cynthia Toel late last week. This comes at a time when allocation of hostels is very hectic due to the limited number of rooms available compared to the increasing number of undergraduates. Precisely, she sent this brief memo which circulated through Whatsapp

RE: BOOKING OF HOSTELS

Everyone including continuing students will book rooms online. Students are supposed to log in their students portal and they will see the option for hostel booking. They are allowed to select the hostel, floor, room, and bed they want. First years will be sent their login details. Mode of payment will be via Mpesa, where one is expected to pay the full accommodation fee, that is; 6500, after successfully reserving a room. The option of booking hostels will be up in our portals early next week

Comrades received the news with mixed reactions and most of them were left with questions. Some wanted to know when the system will include the booking option. Others wanted to pay the accommodation fees first so that they could get rooms later. The secretary hence cleared the confusion thereafter with the message below.
 

To all comrades

*Don’t pay accommodation fee without successfully securing a room online. All those who are trying to pay the accommodation fee via bank so that they’ll be considered first should stop. That’s pursuing vanity coz they’ll not be considered.

 
Due to this development, Comrades won’t have to make long lines for accommodation. The only thing we hope is that the people behind the scenes will not manipulate the system to favor hand-greasers and by that, we shall say JKUAT has made a significant stride in technology, efficiency and fight against corruption.

This is to let you know that NO payment is being made for the hostels currently.

Online booking is set to kick off on the 15th of August 2016.

Consider anyone asking for money a CONPERSON and report them to the nearest police station.

You can reserve hostel rooms from Mon 15th Aug 2016 from 10 am.
Follow the instructions as shown on the page http://hostel.jkuat.ac.ke/
You will pay Kshs 6500 upon receipt of the message that the room has been reserved and confirm payment through the system for the room to be allocated. STOP20465

Strictly for August intake students, that is, first years

As for continuing students, you will use individual portals.

This is to inform you that the booking of rooms scheduled for Thursday 18th has been postponed to give room for the moving of the portal to a stronger server for better service and to avoid jamming and login issues also for uploading of students data to the system.

We can pay through any means, and present the printed receipt to the hall’s manager.
Continuing students are going to use their students’ portals & 1st years the website https://hostel.jkuat.ac.ke/ to book rooms
